A blanket is just a blanket is just a blanket. Unless, of course, it's a tech blanket like the updated Therm-a-Rest Argo. Blankets made from technical fabrics have become a staple around Gearflogger HQ because they offer a number of advantages over cotton and other natural fabrics.
The Argo uses eraLoft hollow-fiber synthetic fill inside a soft-touch polyester cover. It's got a nice, smooth finish to it and feels great against your skin. It will also keep you comfortable over a wide range of conditions. The advantages of synthetic materials are what make the Argo such a good backcountry companion. It will retain warmth when wet, it's tough and at the end of your adventure you can just throw it in the wash. This last advantage will be doubly appreciated by those with kids, who seem to be attracted to a new blanket like dogs to a new bone.
The Argo is sizable at six by six-and-a-half feet, and it has a few other neat tricks. It stuffs into its own built-in pouch, and it has snaps and loops around the edge to attach to other blankets, sleeping bags and pads. There's even a drawcord at the bottom so you can cinch it around your feet for a little extra comfort. The Argo is definitely versatile, and you'll always be able to find a use for it, even if it's just to keep your kids entertained building forts in the cabin.
