Most gearheads in the US market aren't familiar with the Germany-based Maloja clothing brand, but they should be. Despite their quirky naming style the company makes a wide range of clothing a nice European style and impeccable craftsmanship.
The Sheflogger has been rocking the ScoulaM. jacket - we told you the names are quirky - through the thick of the Alaskan winter here at Gearflogger HQ in Anchorage, and she loves it. The jacket is a hooded jacket packed with 800 fill down, and in a nice touch the baffles are bigger in the torso area to reduce cold-leaking stitch lines and allow more heat-retaining loft.
The design of the ScoulaM. is fitted and very flattering, with a nice color contrast between the inside and outside. As far as features go it's definitely on the minimalist side and has the extreme light weight and packability to show for it. Two zipped hand pockets and hem and hood drawcords give you just the adjustment you need, and a full-length draft flap with zipper garage and elastic on the cuffs keep the chill out.
Materials are top notch: the down is Bluesign certified for sustainability, the superfine 20D nylon shell is windproof. It all adds up to a beautiful jacket that is sure to please in both performance and looks. And lest you think we forgot, yes the ScoulaM. passes the all-important chinny-chin-chin test: when fully zipped up the hood wraps around the chin and keeps it toasty. A great jacket, hands - and chin -down. If there's any downside it's that the ScoulaM. is not easy to find in the states.
